Meet the Principal

Ian Brew

Ian Brew

Principal, Mr Ian Brew, joined the newly-opened Academy in 2005 following three years as Vice Principal of partner school, Emmanuel College.

Upon graduation from Aberystwyth University with a BA in History and a Post Graduate Certificate of Education (PGCE), Mr Brew's early career involved teaching students in Physical Education, Religious Education and History.

With a passion for teaching, which he attributes to the influence of a 'superb' teacher whilst at school, Mr Brew's wide-ranging experience also includes a five year period in industry.

Alongside a dedicated leadership team, his ambition and vision has contributed to the school being awarded 'Good with outstanding features' by Ofsted in 2008 and has increased Sixth Form numbers from 70 to 250 students, over four years.

Describing his vision for the school he said: "We want all of our students to feel happy, safe and challenged, instilling in them a good work ethic and a sense of pride in their school.  As well as inspiring students to achieve academic success, we have a desire to prepare them to become responsible citizens, all of whom are a credit to society."

With attendance above the national average at 92% and an increasing number of students going on to university, Trinity Academy is going from strength to strength, as Mr Brew explains: "As a team we strive to build upon our many successes to date and continue to raise standards, ensuring an excellent, enriching school experience for the children in our care."

Proud father of three, his interests include extensive leisure pursuits, notably cycling, walking and football.
