Summer Fair Preview

Back to News Index

Young footballers inspired by the World Cup can show off their skills at a sporting and entertainment extravaganza this weekend.

Trinity Academy in Thorne is hosting a community fair where a junior soccer skills event will take centre stage.

A call has gone out to youngsters from across the area to join in on July 3.

Elsewhere in the school grounds in Church Balk there will be high energy activities from junior cheerleaders, dance spectacular to a dance mat competition.

Organisers hope the whole community will come along and there will be a host of stalls, refreshments and games for all the family.

The event is in aid of the Academy's three adopted charities: Bluebell Wood Children's Hospice, Cancer Research UK and SAO Cambodia.

Trinity is also supporting other local charities by encouraging them to come along with stalls and promotions.

Science teacher and fair co-ordinator Colin Towers said: "We are in the final days of preparations now for the fair and it's shaping up to be a fantastic event.

"We've made sure there will be something for everyone so that all the family can come along and have a great day out together."

A highlight of the fair will be the chance to take a helicopter ride. Two free seats are being offered in a prize draw for which everyone qualifies who has bought a 50p programme.

"We really are reaching for the skies to make this year's fair our biggest and best yet," added Mr Towers.

"There'll be a mini fun fair, retail and craft markets, a car boot sale and a full programme of entertainment including ‘Elvis'. Last year's summer fair raised £2,500 for our charities. With the programme we've planned this year we would love to double that."

The fair runs from 10am-3pm on July 3 at Trinity Academy in Church Balk.

Bookings are still being taken for helicopter rides, which cost £30 per person in advance or £38 per person on the day, and trade stands. Call the Academy on 01405 813000 and asking for the summer fair helpline or email summerfair@trinityacademy.org.uk
