There are many sound, practical reasons for having a compulsory Academy Uniform. Perhaps the most obvious reason is that it removes the burden of having to decide what to wear each day. The uniform however has a great deal to do with the Academy's ethos. Students will be encouraged to take a pride in themselves and their appearance at all times. Parents are asked to give their vital support in maintaining the very high standards by adhering to the lists set out below and using the approved Academy suppliers.
Not only must uniform be worn but it is particularly important that it is worn properly. The uniform also helps us to establish a sense of identity. Students should begin to feel proud of their uniform and their association with the Academy. Similarly, as the students move out into the community the image they present will help establish our identity in Thorne, Doncaster and beyond.
In order to maintain consistency of colour and style we ask that parents purchase all items of Academy uniform from our approved suppliers - the John Cheatle Group.
Items can be purchased from the school's on site uniform shop via the John Cheatle website:www.schoolwear-centre.co.uk.
Note: Items marked * must be purchased from our approved suppliers.
A range of bags can be purchased from Cheatles *. Bags should be plain black, no visible logos and large enough to carry an A4 size folder.
Coats should be navy blue or black rather than loud or garish and denim, leather or paramilitary coats are specifically prohibited. Navy blue or black scarves are allowed. Expensive coats of any style are strongly discouraged. Coats should have no logos, adornments or labelling although reflective strips are strongly encouraged for those walking to school. No hoodies are allowed.
Plain black coats can be purchased from the school shop.
The Sixth Form uniform consists of a black blazer and trousers for boys and a black suit for girls. Boys are also required to wear a tie *. The P.E. kit and shoes are the same for Sixth Form students as for the rest of the Academy.
Students playing rugby or hockey are advised to wear a gum shield for their own safety and protection.
