Food Studies

The Food Studies Department is made up of three teachers.

 

The department delivers courses at Key Stage 3, 4 and 5. All students in Key Stage 3 complete a course for one term of each year which comprises of practical and theory work. In Year 7 the theme of the course is “Healthy Eating” in Year 8 “Snack Products and in Year 9 “Celebrations”. The department offers the following courses:

 

  • AQA GCSE Food and Nutrition
  • BTEC 1ST Certificate in Hospitality
  • BTEC 1ST Certificate and Diploma in Children’s Care Learning and Development.

 

Course Outline/Overview

 

Key Stage 3

Food Studies is taken by all Key Stage 3 (years 7, 8 and 9) students covering the following topics:

 

  • Choosing Ingredients
  • Snack products
  • Cake Making
  • Pastry
  • Healthy Eating
  • Health and Hygiene
  • Nutrition

 

Key Stage 4

GCSE Syllabus: AQA GCSE Food and Nutrition

 

As mentioned above we currently offer GCSE food and Nutrition as well as Btec courses in Hopsitality and Children-s Care learning and Development.
