Doncaster Schools U13's Cup Winners

A talented team of footballers are the toast of their school after bringing home its first sporting silverware.

The boys from Trinity Academy in Thorne lifted the Doncaster Schools Football Association U13s Cup after a convincing 3-0 victory in the final against Balby Carr.

It came after a season in which the Year 8 Trinity squad scored 49 goals and conceded only one against the seven other schools in their league.

Captain and centre back Robbie Spence, from Thorne, who scored in the final, said: "We lost to Balby Carr in the final last year so we really had something to prove this season. We have got a really good team with quality players in nearly every position.

"We hope this is the first cup of many we win for the Academy. We've won the U13s this year so there's no reason why we can't go on and win the U14s next year."

In the final, Jordan Whitnall was named player of the match, with the other goals coming from Josh Cadman and Ben Middleton.

David Stewart, team coach and PE teacher at Trinity Academy, said: "First and foremost the boys are all friends and get on really well which shows when they play.

"They are the best set of talented young players I have seen in this year group so coaching them has been an easy job. Everyone at the Academy is very proud of them."
