Creative Show

Back to News Index

STUDENTS have been showing off their talents at a special evening of music, art and design.

The event was staged at The King's Academy, Coulby Newham, in an extravaganza designed to display the skills of students coming to the end of courses in creative arts, technology and music.

Visitors were treated to displays of ceramics, textiles and fine art as GCSE and A Level students exhibited their work.

More than 200 guests, comprising parents, students and former pupils, were then treated to a concert featuring the talents of soloist performers, the orchestra, Gospel choir and Year 7 choir.

For Year 12 student Emma Brady the evening was a chance to share her love of fashion. The AS level textiles, art and design student displayed her dandelion creation, influenced by her favourite designer Hussein Chalayan.

"I find design fun and relaxing and would love to go into it as a career," said Emma, of Acklam, who hopes to study fashion at A Level and at university.

"The dream would be to have my own label and show it in Milan and London."

Chris Drew, Principal of The King's Academy, said: "We are blessed with enormous talent among our students and this event has been a great opportunity to show off their hard work.

"Judging by the quality of the exhibits and the musical performances our young people have very bright futures to look forward to."
