Athletics - Hard Work In The Heat For Multi-Eventers

Back to Sport Index

Age Group: Year 8&9

Fixture: County Athletics

Competition: Pentathlon Championships

Venue: Monkton Stadium

Result: Girls 3rd, Boys 'A' 5th and 'B' 9th

The hottest day of the year so far may have been welcomed by most but not by our hard working pentathletes. Everyone ran themselves into the ground in the final event of the day, the 800m, but it was hot work. Our girls finished brilliantly, producingthe highest team score for 800m to lift themselves into the bronze medal position. Laura Denton was their top performer in 11th, but there was little between all four. Harriet Miller was quickest in the hurdles but Rachael Ward took pole over the distance in the 800m. Amy Fuller was our best long jumper with a landmark personal best of 4m. Ethan Lisk equalled Laura's achievement in the boys competition as our A team finished 5th. Daniel Mallet performed above the expectations of many and was by far our fastest hurdler. Conor Black produced another good shot putt whilst Ben Morton led the way in the high jump and Stefan Spence the long.
