Course Outline/Overview

Key Stage 3

Throughout KS3 students studying History will be encourage to develop their knowledge of different historical periods in a chronological progression.  The curriculum covers the main key themes of political, religious, social, cultural and economic change as a context for students’ understanding of the past.  In developing this knowledge they will be expected to develop and use the following key skills:

• Evaluation of different types of historical sources through the key ideas of content, context and purpose
• The ability to communicate historical knowledge and understanding of the past in a precise, analytical manner usually in the format of an essay

Key Stage 4

GCSE Syllabus: AQA History


The course is organised looking at themes in 20th Century History with five main topics:

• Russia 1917-1941
• Germany 1918-1939
• Britain and the First World War
• Britain and the Second World War
• The Cold War 1945-1991

Key Stage 5

AS/A Level Syllabus: AQA

The course covers two main elements which are covered in both
the AS and A2 exam:

• Early Medieval British History
• Early Medieval European History
