Business Studies

The Business Education Department staffing comprises nine full-time members of staff. The department benefits from a suite of seven rooms, an open learning area and a PC network serving 500 PCs on Windows XP, all using Microsoft Office professional software.

 

Course Outline/Overview

 

Key Stage 3

Every student at Emmanuel College studies BITE at Key Stage 3. This is a combined course covering Business, Information Technology and Economics. Full details of the course can be found in the following file: 'EC KS3 BITE Overview'

 

Key Stage 4

We currently offer Business Studies at GCSE.


GCSE Syllabus : EDEXCEL Business Studies

The course content covers 5 areas of Business:

 

  • Business Activity and the Changing Environment
  • Human Resources
  • Accounting and Finance
  • Marketing
  • Production


Most of the course is taught using case studies based on real businesses so that students can see theory put into practice.

 

We also offer the following courses at Key Stage 4:

Edexcel Applied ICT GCSE

Edexcel ICT GCSE

 

Key Stage 5


We offer a vocational A-Level in Applied Business.

A-Level Syllabus: EDEXCEL Applied Business

 

The course is based around 12 units of study, which all involve practical and real-life situations within Business. The emphasis is on the people involved, the way they work, the goods and services produced, and the economic climate in which they operate.

This will involve the study of some aspects of:

 

  • Management
  • Finance
  • Business Organisations
  • Marketing


Students can take either the 12-unit A Level (which is equivalent to 2 A Levels) or the 6-unit A Level (equivalent to 1 A Level). Both Courses run for two years.

 

We also offer courses in Economics and Applied ICT.
